Cystic Fibrosis Awareness: Jamie Bax's Story

Dog licking woman's face affectionately.

Jamie Bax was sometimes referred to as an 'Old Soul Trapped in a Young Person's Body'. This description fits perfectly, especially considering her journey with Cystic Fibrosis. The old soul perspective doesn't see the purpose in pursuing things that can be easily taken away, which resonates with Jamie's outlook. Additionally, old souls, like Jamie, tend to lack interest in the transient aspects of life, as they provide little meaning or long-lasting fulfillment. This insight is something she reflected on in her scholarship application, showcasing her unique perspective on life's deeper values.

On the homepage of her blog, Jamie Bax described herself as "I'm one of those creative, goofy types. I laugh. A lot. Maybe too much. I'm into design, tech, and art." She loved to read, take photographs, enjoy old movies, listen to various genres of music, draw, paint, and blog, always eager to learn new things. With some initial help, she taught herself how to crochet doilies and newborn stocking caps. Cooking from scratch and baking desserts were also passions of hers. Currently, she was taking lessons to learn how to use a sewing machine. These are all types of crafts that the usual 30-something doesn't typically delve into anymore, reflecting her unique spirit, which even inspired her scholarship application related to living with Cystic Fibrosis.

Jamie Bax loved her Cairn Terrier, Josie, who was always by her side—especially during her vest treatments for Cystic Fibrosis. Whenever Jamie experienced a coughing fit, Josie would come to check on her to ensure she was okay. Jamie also dedicated some of her spare time to volunteering with the Col. Potter Cairn Rescue Network, a non-profit organization committed to rescuing Cairn Terriers and other small terriers or their mixes that are homeless or facing the risk of homelessness—experiences she even included in her scholarship application.

Jamie Bax loved photography and capturing moments, whether it was taking pictures of their dog Josie, the birds visiting their deck or nesting in the rose bush in the front flower bed, or observing the baby rabbits in the yard. She cherished every memory she wanted to save, especially as someone living with Cystic Fibrosis.

When she was feeling well, traveling with her husband Jarrod was a passion for her. They embarked on cruises, explored different cities in the U.S., enjoyed theatre together, and indulged in new cuisine whenever the opportunity arose. They had shared seven wonderful years of marriage before her passing.

Despite her struggles with Cystic Fibrosis, Jamie had always accepted her situation and was determined to make the best of it. Her story continues to inspire many, including those looking for motivation in their scholarship applications.
